ANNANDALE – Brittany Connatser hammered down a match-high 17 kills to help lead the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team to straight set (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) victory over Montgomery Wednesday evening inside Ernst Gymnasium.
The Nighthawks go to 11-12 and return to the court Thursday when they travel to CCBC Essex for a 7 p.m. start.
MC had a lead in the early portion of the opening set, but following two Connatser kills it forced the Raptors to call a timeout with NOVA on top 17-15. After the timeout, the Nighthawks outscored MC 8-7 to grab the win.
In the second set, the Nighthawks led 15-9 midway through and would eventually go up 20-13 after Ivanna Jorge ace. However, the Raptors used a 8-2 run to bring the NOVA advantage down to 22-21.
A Mollie Simon and Wooten block early in the final set gave NOVA a 5-4 lead, which was an advantage the Nighthawks would not lose. NOVA would build a 17-11 lead and held for the 25-18 victory.
