Four-time Region 20 champs too much

KEYSER, W. Va. – Elizabeth Corcoran was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run, but the Northern Virginia Community College softball team fell 22-1 and 21-0 Thursday afternoon to reigning NJCAA Region 20 champion Potomac State.

The Nighthawks fall to 0-4 on the season and open up the home slate Monday against Southern Maryland at 3 p.m.

Game One

Berith Austin escaped from a first inning jam and was able to get the first out in the second, but the Catamounts unleashed a 17-run inning. The barrage of runs began following an outfield miscue.

PSC then scored three in the third before the Nighthawks were able to get their first hit of the day off the bat of Corcoran, who laced a double to right. Corcoran came around to score when Nataleigh Weber singled up the middle.

The Catamounts wrapped up their scoring in the bottom half of the fourth on three hits.

Game Two

Errors haunted NOVA in the nightcap, as the Nighthawks had eight defensive mishaps. The eight errors gave the NOVA hurlers nine earned runs. Rheana Gray and Austin gave up 14 hits and walked six, along with striking out one.

Offensively for the Nighthawks, Corcoran continued to hold the hot bat, as she collected both of NOVA's hits.
